My SADE Experience

Tuesday night, July 12 2011: I witnessed SADE live in concert at Phillips arena. A fan of the legend since the age of 5 (who didn’t grow up on Stronger Than Pride?!) the opportunity came after my Aunt couldn’t use her tickets. Clearly, the music Gods adore me, hallelujah!! All surrounding streets near Phillips were blocked off with police escorts as fans of different races and backgrounds from different geographic regions poured into the packed arena to view the Goddess. ūüôā ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬†¬†

John Legend opened the show, looking quite fresh & clean in an all-white ensemble topped with a fresh cut (Hairline was looking right that night) and white vest. His stage set up was quite clean too, simply a full band and (3) backup singers replete with choreography. John spent time between the piano and walking the stage, and though I’m normally not a fan… he was past impressive?! Hit after hit, his vocal quality live is very pure and controlled, and he sang himself into several sweats. Great warm up… but the crowd waited anxiously for the main event.

After a 30 min. intermission, the lights dimmed, horns blared, and percussion sounded to “Soldier¬†of Love.” The crowd. Went. Wild. Up from the ground pops SADE clad in an all-black body suit, fresh face and hair slicked in a pony tail. *Swoon* After killing the first song, she performed for over an hour and a half some of the biggest hits from her discography including “Jezebel,” “Your Love Is King,” “Stronger Than Pride,” (MY FAV!!), “Smooth Operator,” “Gift Of Life,” “Cherish The Day,” and “Is It A Crime.” She made (4) costume changes – (2) menswear inspired (2) gowns, a sliver, low plunging and the other bright red- and was barefoot the last (2) sets. SADE also let her hair down towards the end… is there a woman more gorgeous?? No.

I (as well as the WHOLE crowd) sang along in euphoria. My You Tubechannel has footage from the show, I tried to capture what I could via iPhone (Please excuse my drunken vocals & shaky shots Рwe got it IN!!).

Her band, comprised of some of the best musicians on the planet, were equally as great as she.The arena was thick with the aura of sex, not in the vulgar sense, but the sensual mature, sexy-feel.¬†On my feet almost the entire time… just hit, after hit, each song sounded just as clear and perfect as the original LP. It was honestly immaculate. Vocalists/performers of her caliber aren’t around anymore and it is truly a shame. Every aspiring artist, student or player in the game should witness the greats perform, and this was yet another chance for me.¬†One of the best concerts I’ve been blessed to witness, if you have the opportunity to catch SADE live,¬†DON’T MISS IT!!! You will never regret it. ¬†ūüôā

SADE geeked.

Peace,
